Smoker Level A Rules
Level A smoking competition consists of three required categories and several optional categories:
SMOKED APPETIZER to be ready by 1:00 pm (required)
SMOKE SIDE to be ready by 3:00 pm or earlier (required)
BRISKET to be ready by 4:30 pm, a “full packer” consisting of both the point and the flat and weighing approximately 15 lbs. (required)
OTHER PROTEIN(S): additional protein(s) of smoker’s choice (optional)
SMOKED COCKTAIL or MOCKTAIL (optional)
SMOKED DESSERT (optional)
Smokers will be provided an approximate 15 x 15’ area in Concert Park in Otterbein to set up their cooking/serving area.
Each smoker will be provided one 6’ table and additional tables can be used at smoker’s expense.
Smokers will be allowed to camp overnight in their spots Friday night before the contest/neighborhood party at their own risk. Otterbein security and BCPD will be notified of the overnight activity.
Smokers will provide their own meat, ingredients, smoking equipment, supplies, serving utensils, etc. (Please expect to serve 3-400 “eaters/tasters.”
All cooking must be done onsite with the exception of trimming and brining.
All competitors are required to bring their own fire extinguisher.
Electricity and water will be provided within Concert Park.
Parking near Concert Park is not guaranteed but Area 8 visitor passes will be provided to non Otterbein-resident smokers.
No entry fee is required this year due to leftover funds from last year.
Judging will be by a panel of local food expert judges as well as “Fan Favorite” voting.
Prizes include the Golden Pig for the winning brisket. Prizes for best side, appetizer, cocktail, other protein, dessert, etc. will also be awarded.
