Smoker Registration

For Smoketoberfest 2025, there will be three levels of smoker participation. Please complete one of the three forms below depending on which level you wish to participate.

Due to having sufficient donations from last year,
we have enough funds to not charge any smoker entry fees.

Smokertoberfest 2025 Rules

1. Smokers must choose between three levels of competition.

LEVEL A

Required

  • Smoked appetizer to be ready by 1 pm

  • Smoked side to be ready by 2 pm or earlier

  • Smoked brisket to be ready by 3 pm, a “full packer” consisting of both the point and the flat and weighing approximately 15 lbs.

  • All other (optional) entries served no later than 3:30 pm. Voting to close by 4 pm.

  • Smoke onsite except for trimming, brining, marinading, etc.

Optional

  • Other smoked protein of smoker’s choice

  • Smoked cocktail or mocktail

  • Smoked dessert

LEVEL B

Required

  • Smoke anything you want either on or offsite and enter as many categories as you want for fan-voted favorites

LEVEL C (no fee)

Required

  • Smoke anything you want except for brisket either on or offsite to just share with friends/neighbors, no competition

2. Level A smokers will be assigned an approximate 15 x 15’ area in Concert Park in Otterbein and two 6’ table to set up their cooking/serving area. Smokers may set up additional tables at their own expense. Smokers may decorate their area in any way they see fit.

Smokers in Level B will be assigned to one or two competition table(s) depending on categories entered.

Smokers in Level C will share their smoked delights on a community table.

3. Smokers in Level A and B will be allowed to camp overnight before the contest/neighborhood party at their own risk. Otterbein security and BCPD will be notified of the overnight activity. 

4. All smokers will provide their own meat, ingredients, smoking equipment, supplies, serving utensils, etc. Smoketoberfest will provide community materials for serving guests including disposable food boats, plates, utensils, cups, etc. Please expect to serve 300-400 “eaters/tasters.”

5. Sponsorships and scholarships are available for smokers with financial need.

6. Level A smokers must cook onsite with the exception of trimming, marinating, and brining. Level B and C smokers may smoke on or off site.

7. All smokers who cook onsite are required to bring their own fire extinguisher.

8. Electricity and water will be provided within Concert Park.

9. Parking near Concert Park is not guaranteed but a limited number of Area 8 visitor passes will be available to non Otterbein-resident smokers upon request.

10. Smoker registration form is due by 9/15.

11. Judging for the brisket by Level A smokers will be via blind tasting by a panel of local food expert judges. Judging for all other categories will be done by fan voting online.

12. Prizes are as follows:

  • Level A brisket: the Golden Brisket Pig Award for the winning brisket + gift certificate valued at $250 TBD.

  • Level B category prizes will include Smoketoberfest merchandise, gift certificates to local restaurants, etc.
